Cookie policy

What cookies are
Cookies are small text files that a website saves on your device. Some are needed for a site to work. Others, such as analytics cookies, help a site owner understand how the site is used.
How this site uses them
This site uses one essential cookie, which is always on, and Google Analytics cookies, which are only set if you accept them. Analytics cookies are off by default. Rejecting them is as easy as accepting them, and the site works the same either way. We do not use advertising trackers.
The cookies in use
| Cookie | Set by | What it does | Lasts | Type |
|---|---|---|---|---|
fp_consent | This site | Remembers your cookie choice so we don't ask again on every page. It also holds a random ID that links your choices in our consent record (see below). | 12 months | Essential |
_ga | Google Analytics | Gives your browser a random ID so that visits can be counted and visitors told apart. | Up to 13 months | Analytics (only with your consent) |
_ga_MLMZ8SBB66 | Google Analytics | Keeps track of your session, so page views within one visit are grouped together. | Up to 13 months | Analytics (only with your consent) |
Your browser may delete cookies sooner than the times above.
What we use analytics for
Analytics tells us which pages are viewed, roughly where visitors come from, and what kind of device and browser they use. We use it only to understand and improve this site. The legal basis for analytics cookies is your consent.
Change your choice
You can change your mind at any time. Using the button below, or "Cookie settings" in the footer, will reopen the choices. If you turn analytics off, the Google Analytics cookies will be deleted from your browser.
You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Doing so may mean you're asked for your choice again. See the ICO's guidance on cookies for how.
Our record of your choice
Each time you accept, reject or change your analytics choice, we save a short record so that we can show what you agreed to and when. The record contains a random ID (the same ID held in your fp_consent cookie, after the dot), the date and time, your choice, the version of this policy that you saw, and the page you were on. It doesn't contain your name, email address or IP address, and it isn't used for analytics or marketing. We keep these records for 12 months and then delete them. See the privacy notice for more.
If you accept analytics, Google processes the data collected, which may involve transfers outside the UK. See how Google uses data from sites that use its services and Google's privacy policy.
